Backflow Testing & Services
Protect Your Water and Your Business
With backflow prevention, Ken’s Plumbing helps businesses and organizations in the greater Greenville area safeguard their water from contamination and their company from liability. With more than thirty years’ experience, we offer a full range of backflow-prevention services by plumbers certified by the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES). From initial preventer installation to annual backflow testing, the Picky People’s Plumber helps keep your water supply clean.
Your plumbing system consists of pipes that bring in clean, potable water and other pipes that carry out wastewater. Backflow happens when an unexpected pressure drop causes wastewater to flow back into (rather than out of) your water supply. When that happens, it can bring with it all kinds of pollutants and contaminants, and that health risk is what makes backflow prevention so important.

Backflow Testing
Given how important proper backflow prevention is to maintaining the health of your water supply and your employees and patrons, the government requires testing for all buildings with a backflow preventer at least once a year. Our SCDES-certified plumbers can perform annual backflow testing to keep you compliant and ensure that everything within your backflow-prevention system is functioning properly.
During testing, our technician must shut off your water service for a brief period (typically 10–30 minutes, unless problems are detected). We recommend scheduling your test when it will least impact your daily operations.
For the greater Greenville area, Greenville Water retains a record of all preventers and their compliance testing.
Backflow Maintenance and Repairs
Whether problems are detected during your backflow test or at a different time, they should be addressed as soon as possible to avoid contamination risks and compliance fines. Delayed repairs or maintenance can also lead to property damage caused by corroded, leaky, or burst pipes.
Our plumbers efficiently diagnose and quickly repair backflow problems to get your system functioning properly and up to code. After repairs or a preventer relocation, follow-up inspections are required to ensure everything is working correctly.

Backflow Preventer Installation
A backflow preventer is a mechanical device that essentially acts as a one-way gate for your water flow, preventing contaminated water from being sucked back into the system.
Nearly all commercial and industrial buildings (and even a few residential ones) require a preventer to keep clean and contaminated water separate.
We provide backflow preventer installation both to new construction and to older buildings that need an upgrade or preventer relocation. We work with you to make sure you get the right kind of preventer to meet local codes and regulations.
